THE NAME OF JESUS HIS GLORY REIGNS B. Childress Sep 14, 2007 HOW THE NAME CAME As the Son of God, Jesus inherited His Name, a Name greater than any heavenly being... "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers of the prophets, Hath in these days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, "THOU ART MY SON, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE? And again, I WILL BE TO HIM A FATHER, AND HE SHALL BE TO ME A SON? And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM." Hebrews 1:1-6 - God set Jesus apart from any other heavenly being except Himself. The Son of God was far superior to any prophet. He was far superior to the heavenly hosts, the messengers of God.
Jesus came out of the grave with authority over the devil, sin, sickness, disease, poverty, and lack and He was given the Name above every name. All your authority, all your blessing, and all your answered prayer is wrapped up in the Name of Jesus. That name will make His conquest a reality in your life. That Name will accomplish whatever you need according to the Word. You must accept and reconcile the truth that because of the Name of Jesus, Satan has no right or authority in your life - he has no right to dominate you. It is only when you do not know the truth that he can take advantage of you and dominate you - the truth shall set you free (John 8:32, 36).
THE NAME IS THE KEY - The "Key" is in His Name - the Name of Jesus. Jesus is the Mediator, the Intercessor, the Advocate, the Lord who stands between us and the Father. Let us lift up His Name for He obtained the key to our spiritual authority and then gave us the key. He gave us the authority to do works in His Name, "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and death." Revelation 1:18
THE NAME BELONGS TO THE CHURCH Believers have authority in the Name of Jesus - it belongs to us. Jesus said in Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." This word "power" could also be translated authority. We have power and authority in the Name of Jesus! We have the power of attorney to use the Name of Jesus. We have the power to use that Name in prayer; We can use that Name in dealing with demons; and we can use that Name in ministering healing. We can use the name in agreeing in His name 'Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18:19,20 For the prayer of agreement to be effective, Jesus must be honored in our midst. That is why Jesus is there, "in the midst of them," when two or three agree in prayer in His Name. He is there to make sure that what was agreed upon comes to pass. The secret to the power and authority in Jesus' Name lies in the fact that He is with us. And where Jesus is present, so is His power. He is with us in the power and authority of His Name. Of course, Jesus is always present, because He indwells believers by His Spirit. But when believers gather in Jesus' Name, He is there in their midst in the power and authority of His Name - that's how things get accomplished to the glory of God - in the Name of Jesus. We do not receive our every need met just because we are born again and Jesus lives in us. It's the power and authority in that Name that gets us the thing we need and want in life. Some people just want to barely get by, and they call that humility. But if you will study the Word, you will find out that God is not talking about our barely getting by; He is talking about our having an abundant supply left over after all of our needs are met. Kenneth Hagin, Jr, says, " Many, Many times, I have used the wonderful Name of Jesus to march out of tests and trials victoriously. I have used that Name to receive protection in the midst of danger. I have used the Name to command sickness and disease to leave my body and the bodies of my children. And I have used the Name to receive my financial needs met." Glorify God not the Devil The difficulties of life come to us all, but let's turn our talking about the circumstances around. Let's get hold of the Word and talk about what the Word has to say so we can believe God for victory and watch those circumstances change. In other words, we can say, "We had a tough time financially last month, but, thank God, the Word says that God meets every need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. I praise God ahead of time that we are going over the top in Jesus' Name." It's all right to recognize the facts and acknowledge your problems. But once you do that, take your stand and declare your victory. Faith in the Name Why doesn't the Name seem to perform the kind of miracles seen in Acts? Faith in the Name of Jesus. It's not faith in the Word, per se, though you do have to have faith in the Word to have faith in the Name. You have to believe in the Name! In other words, you need to realize the power in the precious Name of Jesus, He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;....." Mark 16:15-17 This is the Great Commission. It all stems from His Name, and it is carried out in His Name. It is all in His Name. But we have to have faith in the Name. Peter was rehearsing the healing of the lame man who sat at the Gate called Beautiful, "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all." Acts 3:16 His faith was in the Name of Jesus, not in the name of Peter or John or any other disciples. WE NEED ONLY TO SPEAK THE WORD
IT'S ALL IN THE NAME - JESUS The Early Church lived with the Name of Jesus on their lips. So the Name of Jesus should be on our lips at all times. When you understand the magnitude of that Name and are continually conscious of it, others will notice. Acts 4:13 says, "...when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus." The believers in the Early Church were taught the important truth of doing everything in the Name of Jesus. They must have understood the benefits in the Name of Jesus better than believers seem to today. They probably used and appropriated the Name continually in every area of their lives. Just as the Name should be a part of our everyday lives, too, " And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:17 The Early Church lived with the Name of Jesus on their lips and it produced results, not only in their lives, but in those who were outside the Church - sinners.
Where morals are involved, the Bible is plain on the subject, We have no leeway. First Corinthians 6:9 and 10 lists a terrible "catalog" of sin. But there is power in the Name, the Name of Jesus. The Name of Jesus can deliver a person from all the things mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 10. Maybe you've already experienced the cleansing, sanctifying, justifying power in the Name of Jesus! Others still need to experience that power in their lives. Hence, we know there is deliverance and forgiveness in the Name of Jesus.
The first sign in the passage that Jesus said would follow or accompany believing ones in His name, "...In my Name shall they cast out devils..." (verse 17). Jesus said the first sign that would accompany His believing ones was casting out demons. In other words, we can exercise authority over demon power in the Name of Jesus. If you are a believer, then you have authority and power to cast out demons in the Name of Jesus. Rely on the Word of God as your textbook to guide and instruct you. For example, when Paul and Silas were travelling to a place of prayer and were met by a slave girl "who had a spirit by which she predicted the future...[and] earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling." Acts 16:16-18 This girl followed them around for days shouting "praises" of Paul and Silas. When Paul became annoyed with her behavior, "...Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned round and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her." (verse 18) Notice that when Paul spoke, he did not speak to the girl, but to the spirit. The Bible says that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood "...but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" Ephesians 6:12 In other words, people aren't our problem; its the evil spirits that influence people that are the real problem. Paul said to that spirit, "...I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her..." Acts 16:18. And that spirit came out of her. Many people who do not understand the operation of demons try to deal with the person when an evil spirit is manifesting itself through someone. But again, its not the individual we are to deal with; it's the spirit controlling the individual that we must deal with. A person can yield to an evil spirit without being possessed and taken over by an evil spirit (demon possession is not as common in the United States as it is in other countries). We do not fast, we do not pray, we do not lay hands on a person who has yielded to an evil spirit. We do what the Bible tells us to do - cast out the devil in the Name of Jesus. Many Christians have neglected the use of the Name of Jesus in dealing with demon power, because they have not understood the power that is in the Name or how to use their spiritual authority in that Name. Kenneth E. Hagin was holding a series of meetings. One morning, someone brought a lady to church and had her sit down in the back of the auditorium because she was carrying on and making all kinds of noise. The person sitting next to her was laying hands on this lady and praying in tongues to no avail. Brother Hagin said, "We've got to minister to this lady; she has an evil spirit." He asked almost everyone to leave the room, because he didn't want a big crowd of people in there who didn't understand how to deal with the devil. Then He grabbed this lady's hand and looked her straight in the eyes and said, "In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, come out!" The evil spirit answered, "I don't want to!" "I know you don't," Brother Hagin responded, "but in the Name of Jesus, you'll have to come out!" At that moment, the woman fell to the floor, writhing, but within minutes, she was completely restored. You Cannot Use the Name to Violate Another's Will Kenneth E. Hagin was holding a meeting in New York. While Brother Hagin was conducting the meeting, a woman was being escorted toward the door by the ushers, cursing and using every kind of foul language. Kenneth Hagin, Jr. began talking to the woman who settled down a bit and she returned to the service. However, he also instructed one of the associates to keep an eye on her and to repeat these words: 'In the Name of Jesus." He knew that those evil spirits which were influencing her would try to act up again. Two associates positioned themselves right by the woman and both kept repeating 'In the Name of Jesus' until the woman got up and started walking up the aisle to the front of the church where she found a seat. Brother Hagin was on the platform conducting the meeting, but when the woman started acting up again, he simply said, "In the Name of Jesus" and kept right on going with his message. About twenty minutes later, she started up again. This time, Brother Hagin said, "I told you in the Name of Jesus to behave." The woman settled down and never disrupted the service again. After the service, Brother Hagin told this woman that she could be delivered from that (evil spirit) if she wanted to be. But she replied, "No, I like it this way. I get attention yielding to this 'thing' that comes upon me." Brother Hagin could not help her, no one could help her as long as she did not want to be helped. If someone wants to keep on yielding to an evil spirit, you can't help him. However, in the Name of Jesus, the person does have to be quiet while you are ministering. Because when you are ministering, you have a certain authority to stop any evil spirit that tries to hinder, embarrass, or intimidate you in any way. We must remember that the devil is frightened of Jesus' Name. If we don't use our God-given authority in our own lives, no one else will - no one else has authority over the devil in matters that concern us, whether it be our physical health, finances, family, job, or ministry. Boundaries to Your Spiritual Authority The responsibility of taking authority is yours in your own home, family, finances, property, etc., so that the enemy cannot come in to try to steal, kill, and destroy. You do not have authority over anyone or anything outside your God- given authority (your spere of authority). The most important thing we must understand is that we have the power over devils and demons in the Name of Jesus. And we need to understand that we have that power, not because of who we are, or how much faith we have, or how much we can pray in tongues. We have power and authority because of Jesus - because we have His Name. The Name of Jesus will work now just like it did in the Book of Acts: the disciples used the Name of Jesus in deliverance (Acts 16:18), Paul used the Name in deliverance in Ephesians 1:18-23 and Philippians 2:10. Use your authority! Talk to your situation. Speak to it in the Name of Jesus. Tell the devil that he must turn loose of your finances. Tell him that he has to stop harassing your mind! Then thank the Father in the Name of Jesus that His Word is true and that the situation is taken care of. It's all in the Name.
SALVATION AND THE NAME The Scofield Bible says, "Salvation is the great inclusive word of the Gospel, gathering unto itself all the redemptive acts and processes." Salvation includes the remission and forgiveness of sin, but it includes a whole lot of other benefits too, " Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.." Psalm 103:2 Salvation includes: - The Remission of sin in the Name - Forgiveness in the Name - Healing in the Name - Quickening (of the mortal body) in the power of the Name - Salvation by confession of the Name - Deliverance in the Name BEARING FRUIT IN THE NAME As we read the New Testament, and especially the Epistles, you'll see phrases such as "in Him," "in whom," "through whom," and so forth that speak of your position as a believer. These passages speak of your union with Him and your legal standing and place in the family of God. As believer, we are "in Christ," so we have His Name. Through our union with Him, we can take that Name and bear much fruit for the Kingdom of God. - We are Jesus' representatives (or ambassadors, 2 Corinthians 5:20) here on earth. As such, we have authorization to use His Name and to bear much fruit through our union with him. The reason we are representatives of Jesus in the earth is that He is physically at the right hand of the Father on High. He completed His earthly ministry in the flesh when He was crucified at Calvary. But Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Since that is true, then Jesus is still willing to heal, deliver, and set free all who are bound today - just as He was willing to heal, deliver, and set free when He walked on the earth. What did Jesus do when He was on the earth, "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." Acts 10:38
We Can Reign in Life Through the Name As Christians, we are to rule and reign in life by Jesus Christ and by His Name, "For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." Romans 5:17 You could rephrase the first part of this scripture like this: "For if by Adam's offense, spiritual death came, that is poverty, hatred, lying, sickness, and so forth. If it falls under the devils category it's there because of Adam's offense." This verse tells us that we are to rule and reign over poverty and sickness, really, over anything that is of the devil. Our Inheritance in Christ Jesus said He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10) That applies to our spiritual and natural lives. Bearing fruit in the Name includes appropriating the blessings and benefits God has provided for us in Christ. We are to live a victorious life. We need to learn to reign in life through the Name of Jesus and through the Word. We need to believe God's Word despite our circumstances and learn to rise above the circumstances - sickness, disease, poverty, and defeat, "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sin:" Colossians 1:12-14 We can reign in life, not because of who we are in ourselves but because of who we are in Christ. We are one with Him. We have His Name. That's where the power is; that is where the deliverance is; and that is where the reigning in life is - in the Name! THE NAME IN PRAYER In John 16:23,24, Jesus tells us how to use His Name effectively in prayer, "And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." We are to count on whatever we pray about in line with God's Word to come to pass in the Name of Jesus. We are to conclude our praying to the Father in the "Name of Jesus." Many people say they are not receiving from God or that they feel as if God has left them. Just because a person is not honoring God's Word and standing on it in faith does not mean God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit will leave that person. The Holy Spirit will continue to try to woo and teach him and try to get him to walk in the light of the Word. He will try to deal with the person. If you are not sticking with the Word, believing it in your heart and confessing it, God won't leave you. He just won't be able to get involved in the situations and circumstances of your life like He wants to, because you are not cooperating with Him. We Have Not Because We Ask Not John 16:24 says, " Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." Many people simply do not ask. They do not understand their right to go straight to the Father in Jesus' name. Who is supposed to ask? The person who wants something. Too many times people go to others trying to get them to ask God on their behalf, but that is not the way it works in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said we are supposed to do the asking. We are supposed to use the Name in prayer and receive answers - that our joy may be full. YOU MUST BE MARRIED Jesus is the Bridegroom, and we are His bride. That is how God the Father has planned it, and that is the only way His plan will work properly. The Lord desires to call us married, and even as the young bridegroom rejoices over and delight in his bride, so the Lord desires to rejoice over and delight in you and me. As we live in extreme obedience, and as those who are married, we will see an increase in the power of God released as we use the Name of His Son Jesus. Obedience is important! The ability is not in us (apart from the Lord's help) to be perfectly obedient, but if we have a willing heart within us, and if we do what we can do, then He will send His Spirit to do what we cannot do. The longer you are in a relationship with the Lord, the more you should grow in your love for Him. The more you love Him, the more you will obey Him.
